Teck Farms providing accessible healthy eating
June 6, 2025

A local urban farm is working to make fresh produce more accessible while educating the community about sustainable agriculture and healthy eating.
Tecklenburg Farms LLC, 1239 N. Hendricks, Hutchinson, established in September 2016 by Chris and Shawna Tecklenburg, operates on six acres in a west Hutchinson neighborhood near Hendricks and 13th streets.
The farm focuses on making nutritious food more affordable and accessible while serving the community and promoting environmental stewardship, according to the owners.
"Our mission is to make nutritious food more affordable and accessible to all, serve the community, promote stewardship, and educate on health and wellness," the Tecklenburgs said.
The operation grows produce both in-ground and under protective plastic coverings designed to shield crops from weather extremes and extend the growing season. The enclosed structures help maintain soil health while protecting against sun, wind, excessive rainfall and cold temperatures.
Key initiatives include making locally grown food available, growing organic vegetables, and delivering produce to market four weeks earlier than traditional growing techniques allow. The farm also extends the harvest season through November and provides vegetables year-round.
The urban farm promotes farm-to-school activities and focuses on educating the community and children about health and wellness. The operation aims to increase agricultural opportunities and support economic growth by creating new markets.
All produce is grown with an emphasis on improving and maintaining healthy soil in an environmentally safe manner, the owners said.
