Pat Tillman was an NFL player who left his football career to enlist in the U.S. Army following 9/11. He turned down a multi-million-dollar contract with the Arizona Cardinals to join the military in 2002. Tillman served in Iraq and Afghanistan before tragically being killed near Khost Province at 27 in 2004.
