Dwight D. Eisenhower, raised in Abilene, Kansas, embodied heartland values that shaped his leadership. His straightforward demeanor earned trust as Supreme Allied Commander in WWII. On D-Day, 1944, he launched history's largest amphibious invasion, telling troops, "The eyes of the world are upon you." He was US President from 1953-1961.
