Edith Clarke was the first female professional electrical engineer in the US. Orphaned young, she studied mathematics at Vassar and electrical engineering at MIT. She invented the Clarke Calculator, which revolutionized power transmission calculations. She later became the first female electrical engineering professor in the US at UT Austin.
