Chuck Yeager

Chuck Yeager, a WWII flying ace and test pilot, made history on this day in 1947, by breaking the sound barrier in the Bell X-1, Glamorous Glennis (named after his wife). Starting as a mechanic, he became a top P-51 pilot. Over his 3-war, 30-year career, Yeager commanded units in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam.
