1 Bullpups Claw Past Cowboys 41-20 in Playoff Opener with Explosive Fourth Quarter

In a thrilling playoff opener on Friday night, McPherson pulled away from Abilene to secure a 41-20 victory, thanks to a dominant final quarter. With the game tightly contested, McPherson held a slim 27-20 lead heading into the last 12 minutes before pulling off a series of big plays to seal the win.

The Bullpups struck first late in the opening quarter, with Brody Seidl powering into the endzone for a 7-0 lead. McPherson's defense showcased early strength, including an interception by Brock Richardson, but Abilene kept it close, tying the game 7-7 in the second quarter. McPherson responded quickly, with a five-yard touchdown run by Catch Delaney to reclaim the lead. As halftime approached, an explosive 76-yard screen pass from Carter Allen to Bishop Brown put McPherson up 21-14.

The Cowboys kept pushing, narrowing the gap to 21-20 in the third quarter, but McPherson’s offense held firm. A 47-yard rushing touchdown by Dane Becker gave the Bullpups a 27-20 cushion heading into the fourth.

In the final minutes, McPherson’s defense made its presence felt. Carter Bengtson snagged two key interceptions, and Allen connected with both Becker and Seidl to extend the lead to 41-20 with just minutes left. With this win, McPherson advances to face the No. 1 seed Wamego on the road next Friday, looking to continue their playoff run.
