1 Bullpups fall to rival Buhler 21-28

The McPherson Bullpups put up a fight against the Buhler Crusaders but ultimately fell short in a tough rivalry game, ending with a 28-21 loss. The game featured dramatic turns, especially in the final minutes, as McPherson rallied to try and force overtime.

The Crusaders jumped to an early 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter, but McPherson responded late in the quarter with a 15-yard run by Catch Delaney, tying the score at 7-7. The two teams traded blows in the second quarter, with Buhler taking a 14-7 lead on a one-yard rushing touchdown, only for McPherson to tie it up again with a 12-yard passing touchdown from Carter Allen to Bishop Brown. The first half ended with Buhler leading 21-14.

On the opening drive of the second half, Buhler missed a field goal to the left, keeping McPherson within striking distance with just under 8 minutes to play in the third quarter. Buhler widened their advantage with a long passing touchdown, putting McPherson behind 28-14. However, McPherson refused to go quietly. In the fourth quarter, Allen found Bishop Brown again for a touchdown, cutting the lead to 28-21 with 3:43 left on the clock. Buhler missed a 34-yard field goal attempt, giving McPherson a chance to mount a final drive.

The Bullpups managed to move the ball down the field, but with just 20 seconds left, a costly fumble on third and ten ended their hopes of tying the game. McPherson finishes the regular season with a 4-4 record.

The Bullpups now look ahead to the postseason with lessons learned from this hard-fought rivalry matchup.
