2. McPherson Electricity Bills to Include New Demand Charge Starting April 1
McPherson residents and businesses will see changes in their electricity bills starting April 1 as the Board of Public Utilities changes rates. During Tuesday's City Commission meeting, BPU General Manager Josh Bedel reminded the public of the upcoming implementation, which adds peak electricity demand (measured in kilowatts) as a billing factor alongside the existing customer base charge and energy consumption (kilowatt-hours). This is a shift in billing methodology and marks the first time many residential customers will experience demand charges, which have traditionally been applied only to larger commercial and industrial users. Detailed information about the new rate schedules will be available on the McPherson Power website (mcphersonpower.com/rates) beginning March 29, giving customers an opportunity to understand how the changes might affect their monthly bills and what steps they can take to manage their electricity usage patterns.

3. Euclid Street Infrastructure Project Advances Toward Maple Street Completion
The City of McPherson's infrastructure improvement project continues to progress along Euclid Street, moving systematically from east to west with sewer line replacements. Having completed work at the Ash Street intersection, crews are now focused on the Maple Street junction, where the Board of Public Utilities reports they're nearly finished relocating water lines with approximately one week of work remaining. The project includes comprehensive surface improvements, with workers installing base sidewalk and stamped concrete on Euclid's south side west of Main Street, alongside pavement sealing in the area. Additional progress includes nearly completed work in the alley north of Euclid and east of Main, where crews have replaced an inlet and restored pavement, with reopening expected later this week. City officials confirmed at Tuesday's commission meeting that the south leg of the Euclid-Maple intersection should reopen by mid-week, and once complete, crews will move operations to the Walnut Street intersection as part of the ongoing water main replacement efforts coordinated with the larger Elm Street drainage project.

4. County Commission Approves Galva Industrial Park Annexation Plan
The McPherson County Commission unanimously approved the city of Galva's voluntary annexation proposal during their March 26 meeting, clearing the way for expansion of Galva's city limits. The annexation will incorporate the Galva Industrial Park and one property north of Highway 56 into the city boundaries. Planning and Zoning Administrator John Kency presented maps and legal descriptions to the commissioners, noting that while the industrial park properties will extend the city's footprint, the northern property already abuts existing city limits. Galva plans to formally adopt the annexation on May 5, 2025, using the commission's approval documented in meeting minutes as part of their required certification process. The commission's action follows established county procedure for municipal boundary expansions, requiring no separate resolution beyond their recorded approval. McPherson County
