The McPherson Refinery has begun the process of restarting operations this week following an extensive six-year maintenance turnaround that has kept the facility offline since mid-March, according to refinery officials.

Rhett Heflin, Vice President of Refining and Plant Manager at McPherson Refinery, confirmed that the restart process is now underway.

"Yes, this week we are starting the plant back up. This will take time as we are starting up a lot of new equipment that was finished and tied in during this outage," Heflin said.

The maintenance event represented a significant undertaking, with approximately 4,850 contractors on site during peak activity periods.

Heflin expressed appreciation for those involved in the maintenance effort. "I am very grateful for all the tireless effort and hours expended by our staff and those partners we brought in to make this maintenance event successful," he said.

He also acknowledged the impact on workers' families, adding, "I am thankful to their families who have supported them while our employees worked long hours with very few days off."

The community's role during the downtime was also highlighted. "I want to offer my gratitude to our community who patiently supported the refinery and our contractors through this time. Everyone has worked diligently to ready our plant for another safe and reliable run," Heflin stated.

Officials did not provide specific details on how long the restart process would take or when the refinery would return to full operational capacity.
