McPherson Fire Department opened the new Station #2 on April 15, 2025. The expansion from one station to two has brought about strategic changes in staffing and operations. According to Fire Chief Chad Mayberry, the department currently maintains six personnel per shift across both stations with plans to increase to seven across all shifts by January 2026. "It is an adjustment to move from one station to two," noted Chief Mayberry. When fully staffed, Station 1 will operate with a Captain and three firefighters, while Station 2 will be staffed with a Lieutenant and two firefighters.

In other exciting news, the department recently acquired a piece of McPherson history – the 1949 Seagrave Quad Fire Truck that served the community from 1949 to 1975. The historic vehicle was purchased and transported from Manchester, Iowa to McPherson this week, generating substantial community interest. One of the department's Facebook posts featuring the vintage truck has received nearly 51,000 views.

Meanwhile, the McPherson Fire Department continues to prioritize community risk reduction through various donation-funded programs. Currently, the department is working toward a fundraising goal of approximately $21,000 to purchase an inflatable fire safety house for teaching children about home evacuation procedures and a fire extinguisher training prop. Since beginning their fundraising efforts in February, the department has raised approximately $11,000 and has submitted several grant applications to secure additional funds.
