McPherson Bullpups Claim Back-to-Back State Titles

SALINA — The McPherson Bullpups cemented their dynasty status Saturday night at Tony's Pizza Events Center, capturing their second consecutive KSHSAA Class 4A Boys State Championship with a convincing 53-44 victory over Rock Creek. The win marks the program's 15th state title, further solidifying McPherson's reputation as a basketball powerhouse in Kansas.

Senior Gabe Pyle, who had delivered game-winning shots in the previous two rounds, led the Bullpups with two electrifying dunks that energized the McPherson faithful. Junior Jett Pyle contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds, while sophomore Ashton Malm provided crucial bench production, including several clutch free throws down the stretch. The Bullpups' disciplined approach was evident from the opening tip, as they jumped to an early 5-0 lead and never relinquished control, taking a 15-7 advantage after the first quarter.

Despite facing significant foul trouble — with starters Ian Razak, Brody Seidel, and Cade Strathman each accumulating three or more fouls — Coach Kinnamon's squad executed their game plan to perfection. They limited Rock Creek's perimeter shooting (approximately 3-for-15 from three-point range) while containing the Mustangs' dangerous duo of Eli Bell and Coley Burgess. When the Mustangs attempted to rally in the fourth quarter, the Bullpups' poise at the free-throw line and stellar defensive rebounding sealed the outcome.

For seniors Gabe Pyle, Bishop Brown, Brody Seidel, and Ian Razak, the championship provides a storybook ending to their high school careers. As they hoisted the trophy amid a sea of McPherson supporters, they not only celebrated back-to-back titles but also added their names to the storied legacy of McPherson basketball excellence.
