Bullpups win opening basketball games vs Dodge City

The McPherson Lady Bullpups opened their basketball season with a 60-41 victory over Dodge City, marking a triumphant debut for new head coach Clint Kinnamon. Brooke Doile led the scoring with 17 points, while Piper Alvord added 15, including a clutch three-pointer in the fourth quarter. With back-to-back threes by Alvord and Jensyn Alexander and a strong finish by Jersey Alexander, the Lady Pups solidified their lead in the final minutes. The win kicks off what promises to be an exciting season for McPherson girls basketball.

Boys

The McPherson High School boys basketball team opened its title defense with a 69-56 victory over Dodge City in an intense season opener at the Roundhouse. The Bullpups overcame a slow start, trailing 21-17 after the first quarter as the Demons sank five three-pointers. McPherson rallied with key plays from Jett Pyle and Gabe Pyle, who combined for 47 points. Jett’s buzzer-beater floater gave McPherson a 37-36 lead at halftime, but Dodge City kept the pressure on, tying the game at 47 by the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, McPherson surged ahead, highlighted by Gabe’s clutch free throws and Jett’s and-one play, building a decisive 58-50 lead with under five minutes to go. The Bullpups’ late-game composure sealed the win as they outscored Dodge City 22-9 in the final frame.
