1 Bullpups' Season Ends With Playoff Loss to Top-Seeded Wamego

In a gripping playoff showdown on Friday night, the McPherson Bullpups pushed the No. 1 seed Wamego Red Raiders to the edge, but ultimately fell short in a 20-13 defeat. Despite being the underdogs, McPherson fought hard, nearly pulling off a major upset.

The game opened with a burst of energy from the Bullpups as quarterback Carter Allen connected with Ashton Malm on a 76-yard screen pass, tying the game 7-7 in the first quarter. Wamego responded with a 1-yard rushing touchdown but missed the extra point, giving them a 13-7 lead just before halftime. McPherson held strong defensively, preventing Wamego from extending the lead as they missed a field goal attempt before the half ended.

The third quarter saw more fireworks from the Bullpups. Allen and Malm continued their electric connection, this time with a 23-yard touchdown pass that brought McPherson level at 13-13 after a missed PAT. The game intensified as both defenses clamped down, and the teams entered the final quarter deadlocked.

With just over seven minutes left, McPherson forced a fumble, recovering the ball and giving their offense a chance to take control. However, Wamego’s defense held firm, and the game remained tied late into the fourth quarter.

As the clock wound down, Wamego's quarterback scored on a 10-yard keeper with just over two minutes remaining, pushing the Red Raiders ahead 20-13. McPherson refused to quit, but a final drive came up short as the Bullpups turned the ball over on downs with 1:25 left, sealing their fate.

With the loss, McPherson finishes the season with a 5-5 record, showcasing resilience and determination against 4A’s top-ranked team.
