Lady Bullpups Dominate Vikings 43-29 in Convincing Home Victory
The McPherson Lady Bullpups improved to 9-11 on the season with a commanding 43-29 victory over the struggling Winfield Vikings (1-19) on Tuesday night. McPherson established control early with a dominant 17-3 first-quarter run and never looked back, maintaining a double-digit advantage throughout most of the contest. The Bullpups' defensive intensity forced numerous Winfield turnovers while their balanced offensive attack proved too much for the visitors. Brooke Doile and Rylie Whitfield led McPherson with 10 points each, with Doile perfect from the free-throw line and Whitfield pulling down 7 rebounds. Marryn Sandbo added 9 points including three shots from beyond the arc, while Ellie Bauer contributed 8 points with solid outside shooting. Despite Carson Hutto's 9-point effort for Winfield on a trio of three-pointers, the Vikings' offensive struggles continued as they were unable to mount a serious comeback after falling behind early.
MCPHERSON BOYS TRIUMPH OVER WINFIELD ON SENIOR NIGHT, CLINCH LEAGUE TITLE
McPherson capped off their regular season with a 64-48 victory over Winfield on Senior Night, securing the AVCTL Division III championship and improving to an 16-4 overall record. After a slow start that saw Winfield jump to a 20-13 first quarter lead behind strong performances from Christian Morey and Evan Hutto, the Bullpups rallied in the second quarter to take a narrow 32-29 advantage into halftime. The momentum shift proved decisive as McPherson pulled away in the second half, maintaining a comfortable 15-20 point cushion throughout much of the fourth quarter.
Senior Gabe Pyle led all scorers with a 26-point performance, including an efficient 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc and crucial free throws down the stretch. Fellow senior Ian Rezak contributed 13 points and provided a strong inside presence, while Jett Pyle added 11 points despite a minor ankle scare. Winfield's Christian Morey finished with 19 points, including two highlight-reel dunks that earned him a technical foul for hanging on the rim, but failed to spark a comeback for the Vikings, who fell to 8-12 on the season. The victory was particularly meaningful as all five McPherson seniors—Gabe Pyle, Ian Rezak, Brody Seidel, Bishop Brown, and Brendan Doile—were featured prominently in the lineup, with the team now looking ahead to hosting a first-round sub-state game as a likely 2-seed in 4A West.
