Bullpups drop two games to Hays

Girls

The McPherson Lady Bullpups faced a tough challenge against undefeated Hays High School, falling 60-29 on the road. McPherson (6-10) showed early promise, staying within striking distance at 13-9 after the first quarter behind contributions from Brooke Doile and Rylie Whitfield. However, Hays (17-0) steadily pulled away in the second quarter, building a 33-14 halftime advantage. Despite forcing several turnovers with aggressive defense throughout the game, the Bullpups struggled to convert those opportunities into points. Doile and Whitfield led McPherson's scoring with 7 points each, while Jersey Alexander added 6 points. Mounting foul trouble proved costly for the Bullpups, as Hays capitalized repeatedly at the free-throw line. Though the final score wasn't what McPherson hoped for, the team showed flashes of potential, particularly on defense where players like Piper Alvord and Brynn Littlejohn created multiple steals against the powerful Hays squad.

Boys

In a hard-fought contest, the McPherson Bullpups fell to Hays 52-57 in Tuesday night's game. The teams traded baskets throughout a defensive first quarter, with Bishop Brown establishing an early presence in the paint for McPherson. The second quarter saw both teams grappling with foul trouble, though Hays capitalized at the free-throw line to maintain a slight edge. The Bullpups kept pace through the third quarter despite mounting foul concerns for key players Jett Pyle and Ian Razak. Hays effectively worked the ball inside to their 6'6" center, drawing crucial fouls and converting at the line. The fourth quarter proved decisive when Hays mounted a small run, though Gabe Pyle answered with a clutch three-pointer to keep McPherson within striking distance. However, Hays sealed the victory at the free-throw line in the final minute, ultimately securing a hard-fought win over the Bullpups.
