Girls scrape by 40-39, boys beat Collegiate 59-54

Girls
The McPherson Bullpups edged out the Wichita-Collegiate Spartans in a nail-biting 40-39 victory at the Roundhouse. In a game that featured multiple lead changes, the Bullpups built an early advantage before weathering a strong Collegiate comeback. Junior Brooke Doile led McPherson with 15 points and 7 rebounds, while Rylie Whitfield contributed 5 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Despite a dominant performance from Collegiate's Julia Herrman, who posted 22 points and 14 rebounds, McPherson's defense held firm in the closing seconds. After a late technical foul gave the Spartans a chance to tie, McPherson responded with crucial inside baskets to regain the lead. The victory was sealed when Collegiate's final shot attempt at the buzzer missed its mark. The Bullpups showcased their depth with nine players contributing to their total of 35 team rebounds, helping them overcome strong performances from Herrman and Lucy Voloch, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans.
Boys
Led by Gabe Pyle's outstanding 29-point performance, No. 2-ranked McPherson (4A) held off a late surge from top-ranked Wichita-Collegiate (3A) to secure a 59-54 victory at the Roundhouse. The Bullpups established control early, building a double-digit lead by halftime (34-22) through strong defensive play and efficient transition scoring. Despite missing key player Sebastian Hines-Turner to injury, Collegiate mounted a spirited comeback in the fourth quarter behind the efforts of AJ Batiste (13 points), Jaden Parker (12 points, 10 rebounds), and Jack Grace (11 points). However, McPherson's defensive composure in the final minutes, coupled with Pyle's efficient shooting (10-14 from the field) and clutch free throws, helped seal the impressive cross-classification win.
