The McPherson Bullpups delivered a commanding performance Friday night in the 4A Sub-State Semifinal, overwhelming the Ulysses Tigers 64-36 at the Roundhouse. Despite head coach Kurt Kinnamon's absence while attending his son's wedding in Mexico, the Bullpups didn't miss a beat under acting head coach Gordon Peck, who has served as assistant for 32 years. McPherson established control early, racing to a 23-6 first-quarter advantage behind Jett Pyle's aggressive drives and free throws. The suffocating Bullpup defense forced 20 turnovers while the offense connected on 50% of their field goal attempts, building a 40-13 halftime lead.
Senior Gabe Pyle led all scorers with 20 points, including multiple highlight-reel dunks, while adding 7 steals and 2 blocks in a stellar two-way performance. Junior Jett Pyle contributed 14 points on efficient 5-of-7 shooting, while senior Ian Razak added 9 points on perfect 4-for-4 shooting from the field. The Bullpups' dominance on the glass (36 total rebounds with 12 offensive) and transition offense proved too much for Ulysses, who shot just 31%. With the victory, McPherson advances to face Concordia in the Sub-State Championship with a berth to the 4A State Tournament in Salina on the line.
