Law enforcement officers are dealing with a standoff near the high school in Inman

The McPherson County Sheriff’s Office said the person of interest in the incident has been taken into custody. People are asked to avoid the area while law enforcement clears the scene.

The Inman School District has canceled school for the day for all of its schools. The McPherson County Sheriff’s Office says it started with shots being fired in the 300 block of South Maple Street. The block is northeast of the high school. Law enforcement officers responded and secured the area. Other law enforcement agencies and medical teams are also there. “The situation remains fluid and authorities are urging the public to avoid the area for safety reasons,” the sheriff’s office said. It advises residents in the immediate vicinity to shelter in place until further notice.
