Yesway to Exit Kansas Market by End of 2025
June 2, 2025

Convenience store chain will sell six Kansas locations as part of strategic shift to southern markets
Yesway, a rapidly expanding convenience store chain, plans to sell all six of its Kansas locations by the end of 2025 as part of a strategic exit from both Kansas and Iowa markets, according to a company spokesperson who confirmed the move to CSP Daily News.
The transition will affect more than 20 locations across both states, including four Yesway stores in Hutchinson, Lyons, McPherson, and yeswayLindsborg. The company, which also owns the Allsup's brand, operates more than 400 locations across nine states.
Focus Shifts to Southern Expansion
The pullback from Kansas and Iowa comes as Yesway intensifies its focus on expansion in southern U.S. markets, particularly Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. The company has announced plans to "significantly" grow its footprint in these states throughout 2024 and beyond. In December, Yesway added three new stores in Texas and two in New Mexico as part of this southern expansion strategy.
"As we continue to grow the Yesway brand and expand our offering to our customers, we may have the opportunity to divest certain stores that do not match our strategy and reinvest the proceeds in locations that enable us to provide a better customer experience," a Yesway spokesperson told CSP Daily News. "We plan to continue our growth and are focused on building the best network of store locations to meet the needs of our valued customers."
No Store Closures Expected
The company emphasized that the transition to new ownership should not result in store closures. "As these stores in Iowa and Kansas transition to new owners by the end of this year, we do not anticipate there will be closures," the spokesperson said. However, the identity of the prospective new owners has not yet been disclosed.
Company Background
Founded in 2015 and owned by BW Gas & Convenience Holdings LLC, Yesway has emerged as a major player in the convenience retail sector. The company's acquisition of the Allsup's chain in 2019 marked a significant milestone in its growth trajectory. In August 2020, Yesway consolidated its operations by relocating corporate offices from Des Moines, Iowa, and Clovis, New Mexico, to new headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.
Currently, Yesway operates under both the Yesway and Allsup's banners across nine states: Texas, New Mexico, South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.
The decision to exit Kansas and Iowa reflects the company's broader strategy to consolidate operations and invest resources in markets with higher growth potential, aligning with its focus on southern U.S. expansion.
