Hutchinson Community College Earns National Recognition as Opportunity College

Kansas institution joins exclusive group of 60 community colleges nationwide

Hutchinson Community College has been designated as an Opportunity College by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education, joining only 60 community colleges across the nation to receive this prestigious honor.

The Carnegie Foundation and American Council on Education recognized HutchCC based on three key criteria:

  • High student access – welcoming students from all backgrounds
  • Strong graduate earnings – graduates go on to earn competitive wages in their fields and launch successful careers
  • Nationally recognized pathways – creating real pathways to success

"We've been nationally recognized—and we're celebrating!" the college announced on social media. "This prestigious classification is based on our commitment to providing accessible education and ensuring our graduates achieve success in their chosen careers."

The Opportunity College designation highlights institutions that excel at serving diverse student populations while delivering measurable outcomes in terms of career preparation and economic mobility. The recognition comes as community colleges nationwide face increased scrutiny over their effectiveness in preparing students for the modern workforce.

HutchCC is a two-year community college that has built a reputation for combining accessibility with career-focused education programs that lead to competitive employment opportunities for graduates.
