APAC breaks ground on headquarters
APAC Shears breaks ground on new building at Airport Road and Avenue G on May 10.

On May 10, APAC Shears broke ground on their new regional corporate headquarters at Airport Road and Avenue G.

“Big congratulations to APAC Shears and the City of Hutchinson on breaking ground for the new regional headquarters,”  Kansas State District 97 Rep. Nick Hoheisel said. “An exciting day for Hutchinson and a strong sign of continued investment in our state.”

APAC Shears, a construction and asphalt company has been providing services in Reno County for more than 150 years now.

The construction of the building has been planned for quite some time. In August of 2023, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved  $5.5 million in Industrial Revenue Bonds for the project.

APAC has been in the area since 1874 and has over the years leased spaces for their corporate offices.

"We office out of here," said Shawn Riley with APAC Kansas back when the bond passed. "We've been officing out of here for, next year will be 150 years. This company was started by Jay Shears back in 1874. We love the community. We've been a big part of the community. We employ a lot of people in the community. What we do is, we build roads. We don't build offices. That's not something we typically do. I've been with APAC for 36 years and this is the first opportunity we've had to actually build an office. We're pretty excited about it."

The IRBs only offer property tax exemption and do not take anything else. They offer a sales tax exemption on all of the materials being acquired for construction and furnishings. After the  project is constructed the IRB terminates.
